Pottery

9 years = pottery
Yesterday was our ninth wedding anniversary.  Nine years.  Very cool.  We're almost into double digits and numbers I don't know in foreign languages.  Even cooler.
We always give each other something from the traditional anniversary gift list.  Nine years is pottery/ceramics.  We both waited until yesterday to go shopping for gifts.  Around 11:30, I went into a store near D's office to look for pottery, The Real Mother Goose.  I'm not even sure where else one would go in Portland to get pottery because I'm far from a pottery seeker.  After browsing aimlessly for about 20 minutes, the clerk asks me if she can help me.  I said, "Well, it's my ninth wedding anniversary and that is pottery and well, my husband and I aren't pottery people."  She then says, "That's funny.  There was a man in her earlier today who said that same thing."  Immediately I knew it had to be D.  Fast forward to our gift exchange later in the day and sure enough, it was D.  We missed each other by probably 15 minutes or so.  Anyway, I got him a bowl and he got me a chicken and a piece of art. But, then he got me another gift that was delivered today: a new iMac!  Woohoo!  Now that's how to celebrate nine years.  So, in terms of presents, D wins the 9 year wedding anniversary battle. Of course, when he wins, I win.
Weekend away
In other news, D and I are heading away for the weekend for his company's retreat.  Originally we were just going to be gone on Saturday night.  However, after Amber offered to take Avery on Friday night, too, we realized we could stay Friday night up there, too.  This is important because it gives me the opportunity to sleep in before my oh-so-difficult afternoon of spa-ing.
In the evening we have a party where the dress code is hipsters.  I'm wearing a purple 80's style prom dress, a green cummerbund, green and black striped tights, a purple vest/shrug, and blue rimmed Ray-Ban knock off glasses topped off with black hiking boots.
On Sunday, there's apparently a very popular brunch at the lodge where we're staying (Skamania), so I'm looking forward to that, too!

Meanwhile, Avery is talking non-stop of her coming sleep over with Josie.  And she's talking a lot about Cayden.  I think she might have some sort of platonic crush on Cayden.  We hardly ever see Cayden, yet when I have gum, Avery will ask me, "Can Cayden have gum?" She does the same thing at other random times.  She wants to know what jammies Cayden will be wearing and whether they'll be scary.  The mind of a 3yo fascinates me.

Firetruck and Ambulance

Avery asked for a toy the other day.  This is unheard of.  Avery only asks for clothes, shoes, and tiaras.  When she asked for a firetruck and an ambulance, I knew I was buying it no matter what.  Anything non-princess I'm definitely getting her.  And what do you know?  I had one more day to go on my vacation.

Last hiding place: the closet in one of the guest rooms.

Ha! I just realized I forgot to schedule this to publish. I will just do it now.

Shoes & Chip Clips

More shoes.  My girl loves her shoes!  And D loves chips, so why wouldn't he want more chip clips.

Wall/Ceiling Decor & Cheese Slicer

I bought these butterflies and dragonflies for Christmas, but then because I way overbought this year, I just hung onto them.  I'd forgotten about them, but found them a week or so ago and realized that took care of another gift!  As for the cheese slicer, what can I say?  D loves his cheese.  And he loves to cut it.

Leap Frog Tag Reader and Photo Frame

This is the big gift day.  I figured it would be good for Avery to have a new toy to play with to make the weekend day go faster for D.  This is the only real gift I bought for D (aka Mr. Difficult-to-buy-for).  I forgot to take a picture of the photo frame, so I lifted it from a website.

Digital photo frame intended for D's office at work.

Leap Frog Tag Reader plus three books (only two are pictured)

Gifts are cleverly hidden in Baby Nolan's crib.

Friday

Shoes & Plastic Cutter ... what else?

I'm pre-blogging my posts on Thursday night.  This post will go up on Friday at noon.  All of my running around this week and last in preparation for Mexico was complicated by the decision I made to get D and Avery a present for each day I was gone.  I've hidden the around the house.  Each day, they'll get a clue as to where they are hidden.  I thought that might be a fun way for Avery to pass the days while I'm gone.  You, my lovely readers, get to enjoy the fun, too.  I'm assuming D and Avery will be opening the gifts first thing in the morning.

The cards I made for D and Avery for each day.  Avery's are on top; D's on bottom.  I did write on each one, but took the picture pre-writing.  The really ugly one in the middle on the top row is because I messed up, but didn't have time to do it again, so I tried to cover it up.  Ah well, it's sparkly.  She'll like it!

D is *hard* to buy for, so he only has himself to blame for getting such lame presents.  However, couldn't we all use As Seen On TV plastic cutters?

It's a 50/50 shot that these are the shoes Avery will be opening on Friday. I ordered them a while ago and managed to hold onto them for this long.  Normally I can't wait to give her new things, so I'm pleased I made it so long.

Presents and cards located on guest room bed in the basement.
