Priceless

Sitting in middle seat in economy for 5.5 hours ... uncomfortable

Discovering your luggage is missing upon arrival ... perturbing

Finding out the next day your luggage tags were cancelled in departure city and your luggage whereabouts are unknown ... distressing

Being forced to cancel Sea Cave Kayak Tour due to lack of clothing, shoes, sunscreen, hats, and swim wear ... very annoying

Realizing flights were paid for on the ONE credit card we have that doesn't have lost luggage insurance ... Mother F*&% !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Having laptop in carry on luggage and hotel with wi fi allowing bitching via blogging ... PRICELESS!

Mahalo.

Consumer Ways

I love this article on YME about a group of people in San Francisco who gave up consumerism for a year. They decided to not buy anything new for an entire year with excepted items including food, shampoo, toothpaste and other health and safety items. Having the Indoor Composter and being a pretty stringent recycler has made me realize how much I really buy since I'm constantly categorizing the trash and moving recyclables to the appropriate spot. Yes, some of that trash is D's, but it's mostly me since I do almost all the purchasing. I admire that they took on this challenge, but it's not something I could attempt anytime in the near future. Plus, I know exactly what I'd do: go out and stock up on key things and that would defeat the purpose. Nonetheless, I admire the effort and the idea. Perhaps I'll try it for a week sometime.

We have a video camera that I asked for a couple of years ago which records straight to DVD. I think we've used it maybe three times and all of those were for when our nephew was here for Christmas. It's too much of a hassle to get it out and figure out how to use it, etc. However, now that my camera has video on it, I wanted to get a video of how good of a snuggler Eddie is. Unlike even 6 months ago, Eddie doesn't jump up with as much enthusiasm anymore - I think because he's sore. However, he can still position himself into optimal snuggling position and somehow manages to put almost no body weight on me when he does it.

Today is errand day! I must return several things, recycle the Styrofoam peanuts, mail a package to DM, have my ring inspected and cleaned, and pick up various other things while out and about. This is one of the better aspects of not having a job to me: I don't have to waste a precious weekend day running boring errands.

I Should Have Known

Pre-Patio Furniture Purchase Discussion

D: I think we should buy patio furniture with fluffy, nice cushions.
M: OK, but we need an easily accessible container in which to store the cushions, otherwise, we'll never use it due to the hassle of getting the cushions.
D: It's outdoor furniture. The cushions are designed to stay out in all weather.
M: You sure?
D: Yes.
M: OK.

Post-Patio Furniture Purchase Discussion

D: Are you watching the weather?
M: Why?
D: So you can bring the cushions in if it's going to rain.
M: So when you said they could stay out in all weather you really meant we would be bringing them inside in the event of rain.
D: [silence] ... Yes.
M: OK, just making sure I got that straight.

Sock Graveyard

Today was my first day of poop scooping the backyard since the lawn people come tomorrow. It wasn't bad, though I will wear gloves next time. Even though I'm using a scooper and a plastic bag the idea of getting anywhere near the poo creeps me out. I did find out what has been happening to all my socks. I couldn't figure out where all my black socks were going. Turns out, Eddie has been stealing them and distributing them all over the yard:

Apparently, Eddie has stolen more than just a few. There were others in spots I didn't really want to try and get to so this isn't the full inventory. I know it's Eddie because I've caught him sneaking out of my closet a few times with a sock in his mouth. He doesn't chew them up. Just seems to take them outside and leave them there. It's less of a problem now that the doggy door is closed because I'd see him taking one out now, but I won't be surprised if I find a stash of my socks in his crate or something. There were a couple of D's socks, but I'm much more prone to leaving mine laying around for the snagging. What I find odd is that almost all of them are black - no white ones and I tend to wear more white ones as my around-the-house socks. The other thing that Eddie is prone to snagging is the vacuum cleaner nozzle. If I leave this on the floor, he gently picks it up and takes it downstairs to the dog room. Again, he doesn't chew it up. Just takes it down there and sets in the middle of the floor. Very odd.
